The perfect pit stop at the Old Post, Nutfield

Last week we took a family road trip to Surrey to see our dogs specialist at the North Downs Specialist Referral and after a long drive we wanted to find somewhere to stop and have a nice cup of tea before our appointment.

In the neighbouring village of Nutfield we came across a nice looking place, The Old Post, an old converted post office and thought it looked like the perfect place. We weren’t disappointed; we walked in and were met by some very friendly staff who happily answered all my questions about their lovely coffee house.

The Old Post was used as a mothers and baby centre for a long time but villagers hoped at some point it would become somewhere that they could all use. After a few years it was turned into a coffee house, gift shop and also runs boutique fitness classes.

The space was laid out perfectly; we were there mid morning and each corner had people sitting enjoying their morning, some with children and some without. It was light, airy and had a very relaxed, easy feel about it.

The coffee house looked out onto a sunny courtyard with another character building set behind it. This building housed a jewellery workshop and a beauty room; beautiful turquoise coloured windows with creeping vegetation growing around it gave you a feel of being somewhere really special.

It was an Aladins Cave; full of the loveliest gifts and homewares. Unfortunately, (fortunately for my OH!) I didn’t have my purse on me, as there were so many lovely things I would have loved to have purchased. There were scented candles from ‘Our Own Candle Company’, cushions, decorative homewares as well as a lovely range of upcycled lights made from old palettes.

Anyone who lives in the area who hasn’t visited The Old Post, I would question why; it is just lovely and what a place to have on your doorstep. For anyone visiting as we were, it was the perfect place for a quick pit stop so, I would highly recommend The Old Post if travelling through or even a little detour to take a break.
