The Perfect Spring Morning in the woods with Laura Ashley

After the long, dark days of Winter, nothing brings more excitement here in the woods than the prospect of longer, lighter, warmer days of Spring.

Spring is upon us and although there is a chill in the air, the woodland that surrounds us is beginning to come to life. Over the last few days, we have enjoyed some dry, clear days and have thrown ourselves into Spring and what our home and the surrounding woodland has to offer.

I love baking with my little girl and this morning, we set about baking some homemade hot cross buns. Once baked, we wrapped our treats up in a natural tea towel, a freshly made juice in a Flask with a outdoor mug, a seasonal book and my daughter’s favourite bunny, all carefully placed into a large basket, along with the perfect Spring coloured blanket. The Woodland Wife Perfect Spring Morning with Laura Ashley The Woodland Wife Perfect Spring Morning with Laura AshleyThe Woodland Wife Perfect Spring Morning with Laura Ashley

We made our way along our daily route, down a wood chip path and after my daughter stopped to make sure that we had everything we needed and hadn’t forgotten anything, we set off into the woods.

It was the perfect Spring morning; everything was beautifully still and quiet, a gentle breeze rustled the leaves, left over from Autumn, while we chatted away about all the games we would play once we got to the middle of the woods.

After a very early start and of games, including hide and seek, the moment came when we decided to stop and have a rest. We took our mid morning snack in our picnic basket, to our favourite spot in a clearing surrounded by chestnut stools and a couple of huge oak trees. We spread out our blanket over a patch of bluebell shoots and unpacked our basket and settled into the setting we found for ourselves to enjoy a book and our freshly baked snack.

I relish these moments, surrounded by coppice, a gentle breeze and the morning birdsong, just chatting away to each other about everything we can see, hear and feel. It is the perfect way to start the day, in my opinion; a slow, quiet morning, connecting with each other and all the nature that surrounds us. After enjoying everything our picnic and our woodland had to offer this morning, it was time to pack everything up and head home.
