Bringing Stylish & Sustainable Fashion to the Mainstream – Fat Face AW17 – Sponsored
Well before I launched The Woodland Wife I have been sourcing my homewares, food and clothing, for myself and my family from brands who care more about the ethical impact of their products, both on workers and the environment, rather than their company profits.
With the news full of horror stories of ‘fast fashion’, exploitation of those who make our clothes, as well as how cheaply clothing can be produced, never have consumers been so conscious of the choices they make when doing their shopping both online and on the high street with mainstream retailers. There is an increasing demand for organic, sustainable, ethical fashion and it is this demand that is making well known, long established high street brands take notice. Some of these companies are beginning to take steps in creating ‘sustainable collections’ and/or switching to more organic materials for those who demand more from retailers. As the demand grows we can only hope more high street retailers start following suit…
Fat Face is one such company that is making moves to adopt sustainable and ethical practices; in an age of ‘fast fashion’ Fat Face has a company-wide ‘Code of Conduct’ where all factories that produce their goods must abide by, as well as working with suppliers and other organisations to make sure their workers are treated fairly.
Ethical, sustainable and good quality clothes simply don’t have to be unstylish, expensive or out of reach for the high street consumer, and the Fat Face AW17 collection is proof of that. The AW17 collection is not just sustainable, but it is also stylish and affordable.
Fat Face kindly sent me a few pieces from their AW17 collection and looking through the collection ‘look book’ I initially struggled to only chose a few items as they have put together a collection full of stylish and practical items for the season ahead. I have said time and time again how ethical clothing, as well as well-made clothing, is something that is very important to me as I am someone who doesn’t just wear things once and discard it, I wear my clothes over and over again, so whatever I wear, I want it to last. The items I chose from Fat Face certainly do feel and look well made, so I can see these items featuring regularly in my day-to-day wardrobe!
Fat Face AW17 Womenswear
OLIVIA CHECK SHIRT
The Olivia check shirt is the perfect everyday shirt with an easy fit, the colour is perfect for the tones of Autumn and I have been pairing this with jeans as well as over dresses.
HAYWOOD CARDIGAN
This flecked Haywood Cardigan is perfect over shirts, t-shirts and dresses, it is unbelievably soft and has two pockets to keep hands cosy… or filled to the brim with bits and pieces that are found on our woodland walks!
VINTAGE GREY SUPER SKINNY JEANS
I am incredibly picky when it comes to jeans as the fit has to be just right. These super skinny fit denim jeans are perfect for both day and night, and I have worn them for woodland walks as well as a local blogging event and evenings out with friends. The stretch gives them a really comfy fit and ensures they keep their shape. I am dreading the day, these jeans wear through at the knee like all my other jeans eventually do, as they are honestly the best jeans I have owned for a long time. I would happily have a pair of these super skinny jeans in every colour Fat Face stock!
CHESHIRE JACKET
The comments I have received about the Cheshire Jacket! Honestly, on the school run several different people have commented on it and said that they were going to ask for it for Christmas! It has a removable hood and super soft collar, both of which I have removed for now during the still fairly warm days, although I should think it won’t be long until I reattach them!
The long, check lined coat has an adjustable waist and flaps on the shoulders to stop the rain from getting in. It’s the perfect jacket to team with jeans and boots for a muddy walk, or with a dress and tights for a more classic look.
TESSA MARL BLOUSE
This stylish Tessa Marl Blouse has become a firm favourite of mine since receiving it. It is made from a soft cotton and has pockets, button cuffs and a flattering scoop neckline. I have been wearing it with my Fat Face denim jeans as well as under these Fat Face washed black dungarees and layered with a cardigan.
WASHED BLACK DUNGAREES
I have been after a pair of dungarees for a very long time now, and the washed black dungarees from Fat Face are just what I have been after. Paired with the Tessa Marl Blouse photographed or a stripe t-shirt – these dungarees are so versatile and perfect practical where around the woods, garden and the house. They are also a little bit stretchy, so are a very comfortable fit; you can quite literally throw them on with absolutely anything!

EMBROIDERED BLOUSE
This adorable navy blouse is patterned with colourful embroidery and a button on the back, it is soft and light so perfect for parties and special occasions, or popping on under a pair of dungarees and heading out into the woods and playing with chickens!
DENIM DUNGAREES
With growth spurs coming thick and fast, these hard-wearing denim dungarees are not the first my little girl has owned, they are however, probably the most well made and hard wearing. Unlike other dungarees she has owned, the buckles on this pair of children’s denim dungarees are easy for little hands to unfasten to go to the loo or get undressed. Featuring side pockets, plenty of buttons and adjustable shoulder straps, they are really comfortable to throw on with pretty much anything!
WOODLAND PRINT DRESS
What dress could be better for a woodland dweller, than a woodland print dress! This printed dress is effortlessly pretty, the soft fabric is lightweight and comfortable, so it’s perfect for when she’s running around or curled up under a blanket on the sofa! There are also handy side pockets and a sweet scallop trim.
