Embracing the Season of Change

The season of big changes is before us; we all know that Autumn is the season of change and beautiful transitions…

In our home, there has been a HUGE transition this year with the start of school for our little birdy. I have watched her take each day in her stride and I am reminded that change, even big changes, don’t have to be something met by resistance and/or anxiety.

Other changes we have seen around us are the changing leaves; from bright greens, to rusty, golden tones. Our wardrobes are changing too, from Summer slip-on shoes to muddy boots, dresses and light tops to jumpers and jeans.

The weather is getting cooler and crisper, the mornings have a real chill; we are seeing the return of hot chocolates rather than cooling ice creams. The long, light days of sitting out on our decking entertaining until late, have been replaced with foraging for berries, apples and long walks with pub lunches by the fireside, as the light begins to fade outside.

Just as the seasons around us change, we are reminded that we too can make positive changes as we head into this new season.

It can be the start of new opportunities; afternoons spent outside gardening can become moments for reading a new magazine or book you have been longing to read.

There is also the opportunity to change your style, and by this, I certainly don’t mean going out and buying a whole new wardrobe, but digging out the old, trusty Autumn/Winter favourites and pairing items up in ways you perhaps have never tried before, or swapping clothes from your wardrobe you don’t wear anymore with family and friends.

If we let ourselves, we can all be guided by the gentle transition from Summer into Autumn, Autumn into Winter by changing the usual routines we have with loved ones. A wild walk in the woods or out in the local park to watch the sun rise, a day trip to the coast, the possibilities are endless… it is after all, these moments that are better when shared with the ones you love.

If you are like me, often ‘change’ (especially in Autumn/Winter months!) is something we can be slightly resistant to, however, watching the changes around us, from the weather, to what we eat and wear, we can learn and embrace the change, accepting that nothing is permanent.

The seasons are not meant to be static and neither are people, so as Autumn really begins to set in, what are you planning to embrace? Are there any changes that you would like to make for yourself and/or your family. As ever, feel free to comment below…
