On a mild Autumn morning…
With Winter fast approaching (sorry for the reminder folks!) the vegetable garden is in a dreadful state, the willow fence that I made for the sweet peas the first year I grew them has fallen apart and the planters, raised beds and cut flower beds are in desperate need of a tidy up.
Autumn and it’s beautiful spectacle ‘letting go’ is often the reminder I need to get outdoors and get on top of the jobs that I would much rather just leave until the warmer days reappear. It is however, a season when time and everything that surrounds us, especially in nature seems to slow down, so as someone who enjoys solo projects and solitude, it is often these jobs that allow me to recharge with some alone time whilst working on tidying up the garden.
With a cup of green tea (I’m attempting to give up coffee!), I set off into the garden and began the tidy up on what was actually a lovely mild Autumn morning; it wasn’t long until I was joined by the friendly robin that sits on the top of the now collapsed willow frame and fluttered in everytime a worm was uncovered.
The wonderful thing about activities like this, is that soon the body is really active, the heart is pumping and the mind becomes clearer. The distractions that so often enter my mind slip away so I can just focus on the task at hand…
On mild days I layer up, so much so that this day I had tights, a dress, a cardigan and a coat; it wasn’t long however, until the layers were off and I was weeding through the wood chip in just my dress and tights. The dress is from one of my favourite brands Thought, from their beautiful Winter collection.
The Harriet Dress has a really nice check design and a beautiful ruffled collar, check is something I am in a lot as I quite often pop on my husband’s check shirts, but it is nice to have something a bit more feminine like this dress in a check design. Harriet is such an easy fit, I just love wearing paired up with a pair of Thought‘s super soft bamboo tights keeps my legs warm on colder days, but I also love wearing this over my skinny jeans. As with all Thought clothing, the Harriet Dress is made to last from beautifully soft organic bamboo and a dress that I wear a lot and I am quite sure will be perfect for those early Spring days too.
For those who remember a sad post on my Instagram a few weeks back, you might also notice that I’m wearing my beautiful personalised initial necklace again! I very sadly lost the original at a ploughing match a few months back as I didn’t close the clasp properly (I was in a rush!) and was quite honestly devastated when I realised it was lost in amongst the recently cut hay. It was not only worn close to my heart for my daughter, but it was also the first necklace in years that I didn’t want to take of and I took so much care of!
Imagine my absolute delight when the lovely Bianca Jones who makes these beautiful necklaces sent me a replacement!
The initial necklace is made in 18ct Yellow Gold Vermeil (they are also available in Sterling Silver). Each initial necklace from Bianca Jones is hand engraved with a scrolled initial and is embellished with a little ‘brilliant’ cut sparkly birthstone in a Victoriana star style setting. The chain is wonderfully delicate; I have always been a real fusspot when it comes to necklace chains, however these delicate chains can be made in a variety of lengths and have a pretty hand-tied Freshwater Pearl by clasp.
Bianca Jones makes such beautiful jewellery, all hand made and beautifully designed in London; modern with a classic twist that makes each piece wonderfully unique and so special, I am so thrilled to have a replacement necklace and take even more care of this one than I did the last! If you are looking for a special gift for a loved one this Christmas or a really special keepsake for yourself, then do have a look at Bianca Jones Jewellery Collection for some beautiful personalised pieces.
Back to the garden and the task at hand, the tidy up for now is complete, however I will certainly need to keep on top of things over the coming weeks so the weeds don’t creep up on me again!
